1750 THOMAS MARTIN, (Bookseller).

Son of AId. Simon Martin, mayor in 1728; born probably at Ashby de la Zouch early in 1702, admitted a freeman 9 August 1727 as the late apprentice of his father Mr. Simon Martin. He joined the corporation in 1730, was a chamberlain 1739, alderman in 1746; married firstly at St. Martin's 28 June 1736 Catherine Glover. By his second wife, Priscilla (--) who died in 1788, he had three sons and four daughters (vide St. Martin's registers).

AId. Martin was buried at St. Martin's 22 March

1764, aged sixty~two. Administration of his personal effects was granted at Leic. 11 July following.

 

Population of Leic. 1750, estimated at about 9,400 persons.
