Son of the Rev. Thomas Stevenson, for several years a Baptist Minister at Loughborough, where he was born 8 May 1820. He came to Leic. about 1845 and soon afterwards commenced to practice as a solicitor, was elected a councillor for East St. Mary's Ward 1 November 1858, an alderman 21 January 1868 and appointed a Justice of the Peace in 1886, retiring from the corporation in 1891 j married and left issue, a son and successor.
Mr. Stevenson was held in high esteem and respect by all who knew him, and his genial face and fine coun, tenance is still well remembered by the older inhabitants. His death took place at his residence, 110, Regent Road, Leic., 24 January 1904, in his eighty,fourth year, and his remains were interred at the Welford Road Cemetery a few days later. M.L there.
