Son of the Rev. John Vincent of Bristol where he was born 4 August 1843, educated privately. He came to Leic. in 1868 and commenced business as a hat and cap manufacturer in 1872. Elected a councillor 2 November 1891 for No. 15 Ward, alderman 1896, later appointed a magistrate 1896 and again mayor 1910 ; married in 1866 Anne Susannah, daughter of William Needs Stack of Chard, Somerset; she died in 1898. Issue, a son and two daughters. He was KNIGHTED by King George V 1 January 1912.
AId. Vincent received the Honorary Freedom of the borough, which was conferred upon him 28 November 1911 and presented 1 May 1912, for services rendered on behalf of the citizens.
Sir William, who was a staunch conservative practically the whole of his life, died at his residence, Knighton Hall, Leic., 27 October 1916, aged seventy,three, and was buried in St. Mary's churchyard, Knighton, a few days later. Will proved at Leic. 20 December 1916 by Gertrude Helen Maud Mary Vincent, spinster, daughter, James Williamson Patrick, M.D., Capt. R.A.M.C., and James Sherwin Dickinson, solicitor.
