Born at Hinckley on the 21st November, 1884.
At the age of 12 commenced work as a half, timer at Messrs. Moore Eady and Murcott Goode Ltd., Hinckley, and at the age of 13 was apprenticed as a Joiner to Mr. John Garner, Builder and Contractor, Hinckley.
At the age of 20 he went to Coventry to work for Messrs. Humber Ltd., making Motor Car Bodies. After working in the Motor Trade at Coventry for 10 years he came to Leicester in 1914 to work as a shop front joiner.
In April, 1915, he was appointed a full, time Trade Union Organiser, which position he still holds.
He was elected to the City Council as a Labour Representative for the Newton Ward, on the 1st November, 1921, and was elected to the Aldermanic Bench in January, 1934.
He was appointed a Justice of the Peace for the County of Leicestershire in February, 1928, and was High Bailiff for the City of Leicester in 1933, 34.
At the present time is Chairman of the Parks and Recreation Grounds Committee and has served on the Education, Watch and Electricity Committees.
He married in 1905 Annie Sophia Carrigan, at Burbage Parish Church, by whom he has had issue, one son and two daughters.
