Over the past 12 to 18 months the level of crime in commercial premises in Leicester has risen. The Crime Against Business Survey carried out in 2008 showed that more than 60% of businesses in the city have suffered thefts and more than 30% have experienced violence or anti social behaviour.
The types of businesses/workers that have recently been victims of crime include the following:
-
Bookmakers
-
Off licences
-
Post offices
-
Corner shops
-
Taxi drivers
-
Delivery people
-
Pubs
Robberies or aggression from customers can lead to employees being threatened or inflicted with violence. Under the Health and Safety at Work Act employers have a responsibility to protect their employees at work. To learn more about how to do this please download the attached leaflet on Violence At Work.
The Health and Safety Team are currently doing a project on Violence at Work and may visit your premises to offer advice. However if you would like any additional information please contact us.
