The City Gallery
The City Gallery is Leicester’s leading contemporary gallery, exhibiting vibrant art that reflects the values of the city’s cultural diversity.

Comprising three exhibition spaces, including fine art and crafts, the Gallery hosts a changing exhibitions programme with twelve shows per year. The exhibition programme is balanced to include all art and craft disciplines and aims to show local, regional, national and international work.

Receiving approximately 40,000 visitors per year, the Gallery aims to provide an opportunity for the general public of all ages and abilities to become involved in visual arts and crafts through exhibitions and events.

The Gallery hosts a number of innovative audience and community development projects, and provides a unique retail area for Leicester, promoting leading local and national makers.

Touring exhibitions, including those from the Arts Council of England and the Crafts Council, are hired on a regular basis. The Upstairs Gallery is for hire by local or regional artists on a weekly basis and is a popular and well-utilised space, showing up to 32 exhibitions per year.

The Gallery also operates a touring exhibitions programme, taking in venues around Leicester including theatres and community centres, and to other galleries around the UK.

Education is placed at the core of the Gallery and opportunities are offered to schools and colleges along with informal workshops and events open to people of all ages and abilities.
