To mark 60 years of the Queens reign, the Diamond Jubilee national celebrations centred around an extended weekend in 2012 from Saturday 2nd - Tuesday 5th June.
Leicester celebrated this momentous occasion in a variety of ways with the beacon lighting, Big Lunch, street parties and coverage of key BBC events shown on the Big Screen in Humberstone Gate over the weekend.
The Queen marked her Diamond Jubilee with a series of
regional visits and engagements throughout the UK and Leicester was the first stop on the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee tour.
