Hot Lofts

Hot Lofts is the FREE loft insulation and cavity wall insulation scheme for householders, run by Leicester City Council in partnership with British Gas and Mark Insulations.

An aerial photo of the city, taken in March 2005, used thermal imaging technology to show the most inefficient buildings in the city and to identify priority areas for energy efficiency improvements. Homes are being offered free loft insulation on a ‘worst-first’ basis, with the least energy efficient properties being contacted first.

The ‘Hot Lofts’ scheme is free for all private sector homes (regardless of household income) living in the priority area. Council houses and Housing Association properties will be referred to their respective social housing landlords for inclusion in separate programmes.

The scheme could save an average household up to £178 per year (based on a typical three-bed, semi-detached house having both loft and cavity wall insulation installed).

Up to 25% of the heat in your home could be escaping through the roofspace above your home. Loft insulation alone could save an average household as much as £100 per year.
