Citizen Reporter – News and Information for Older People

The Role:

This role is developed through a partnership between Citizens‘ Eye Community News Agency, and Leicester Libraries.


The aim is to use community libraries to collect and share information about areas of Leicester by involvement of local people, using community media including (depending on your particular interest) reporting, film, photography and radio.

 
This would help provide positive, constructive information and stories about Leicester, especially those under represented in the mainstream press. The coverage would be published on the Citizens’ Eye website and associated media.

 

 

Skills and experience required:

A genuine interest in contributing to your local community by getting involved, informing  and consulting people. A keen interest to get involved in promoting and publicising local community groups and organisations.

 

The reporter should be proficient in the language you are reporting in and be interested in working and sharing ideas with other people and be willing to try new activities and technologies.

Training: 

Training sessions are held every other Wednesday at Central Lending Library. This involves an introduction to community media techniques through media projects and involvement in the production of newsletters, magazines, film, photographs and radio. Also the use of social media such as You Tube, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr in community media.
