Young Reporter

Citizen Reporter – News and Information for Older People

The Role:

This role is open to children and young people up to the age of 25 years and is developed through a partnership between The2 Young Person’s News Agency, Wot Box, Citizens’ Eye Community News Agency and Leicester Libraries.  
 
The aim is to use community libraries, schools and colleges to collect and share information about your area of Leicester or a subject you are interested in and to make Leicester the best reported city on issues for and about young people. 

 
The reporter would help provide positive, constructive information and stories about Leicester, especially subjects under represented in the mainstream press and those affecting children and young people.

 


Skills and experience:

A genuine interest in contributing to your local community by getting involved and informing  and consulting people about issues concerning young people. A keen interest to get involved in promoting and publicising local community groups and organisations.

 
You must be proficient in the language you are reporting in and be interested in working and sharing ideas with other people and be willing to try new activities and technologies. Also have an interest and knowledge in reporting on particular subjects.

Work hours are flexible apart from training (to be arranged).

Training:

An introduction to community media techniques through media projects and involvement in the production of newsletters, magazines, film, photographs, art work and radio. The use of social media such as You Tube, Twitter, Facebook and Flickr in community media.
