The Summer Reading Challenge

Summer Reading Challenge 2013 Creepy House
Summer Reading Challenge 2013 Creepy House

Monday 1st July – Saturday 31st August

Leicester Libraries are getting ready to introduce children to Creepy House, the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge.

During the summer holidays children age between 0 – 15 years are encouraged to visit a Leicester city library six times to borrow and read books of their choice, collecting stickers and a scary bookmark, a fold up fortune teller, a glow in the dark wristband and a spooky zip tag along the way. PLUS a certificate will be awarded to every child who completes the challenge.

What is Creepy House?

This year’s theme, Creepy House, is the backdrop for a spine-tingling new adventure. Children can explore The Awful Upstairs, The Frightful First Floor and The Sinister Cellar of the Creepy House and encounter many characters including Twilight Tim, Headless Harry, Scarecrow Sid and a rather unusual cat.

How do I sign my child up?

It’s free to join the challenge and children can sign up at their local library. Creepy House packs will be available to collect from Monday 1st July or anytime during the holidays.

What books can my children read?

The Summer Reading Challenge is designed for children of all ages and reading abilities. They can read any books they like: fact books, stories, joke books, picture books - it's up to them. Audio books count too! As long as you're borrowing them from the library, they all count.

What events can my children attend?

This year Leicester Libraries have teamed up with Leicester Museums and The Spark Arts For Children to create an extra special events programme for families and children to enjoy.
