CityStreAtZ Mapping System

CityStreAtZ   Leicester City Council's web based mapping system is now on its 2nd Version. It provides a wide range of geographic information to enable you to find locations and facilities around the City.  The aim with V2 was to keep the ease of use, similar layout (just moving the 'control panel and tabs to the left of the map) , similar way of searching and  interrogating the maps.

As before the system has been designed for set screen resolutions AND 'pop-ups' must be enabled to access the map information and print.

NB. If you have loaded any 'non-standard' toolbars to your browser eg. Google toolbar Or have a 'Widescreen' monitor this will effectively change the  size of window available to CityStreAtZ and you could lose the 'Search' 'Remove' buttons as well as the Co-ordinate and Zoom displays at the bottom of the window.

To resolve this press the F11 key to maximise the view. (press F11 again to return to original view)

What does it do ?

The main functions of the system are itemised below by the tabs (located top left):

  • The Search tab allows you to type in parameters by which to search for a property, these can be a street and number, postcode or building name.Based on the corporate Land and Property Gazetteer, it allows users to search for addresses within the City and view a map of that property.  (NB: property boundaries shown have been inferred from physical features and have no legal standing.)
  • The Maps-Layers tab enables you to switch between a wide variety of information such as current aerial photographs or historic maps from the 19th century. There is also a variety of City Council operational data on display.
  • The Topics tab provides the "Where's the Nearest" function. This enables users to locate the nearest services to a pre-selected address. The services available are those provided by the Council. For instance, if you wanted to find the nearest library, then having selected an address, you would load the library data into the map, click on "Where's the Nearest" and this would list one or more libraries and the straight line distance to them.

There are a set of small Map controls (located above the Map window) in addition to the main 'tab' controls. These allow manual control over the map display eg. zoom, pan etc; allow users to interrogate map data and provide drawing and printing facilities.
