Extending time limits for implementation

This facility applies to planning permissions, listed building consents and conservation area consents where the development has not commenced, and where the permission was granted up to 1 October 2009.

Most permissions are granted subject to a condition requiring the development to commence within three years. These applications allow a new permission to be granted for the same development, with a new time limit for implementation.

It is not possible to use this procedure where the development has already commenced, where the permission or consent has already expired at the time of application, or where the permission/consent was granted after 1 October 2009. In those cases, a new application would have to be made.

Applications must be made on a form. Use form number 033 on our page Application Forms to print. Guidance is also available on this page.

Fees are payable for these applications. Go to our Planning fees page for more details. No Design & Access Statement is required.

It is often helpful to discuss your proposal before you send in your application and to seek pre-application advice from your local planning authority. Contact Planning for further information and advice.
