Government planning policy and advice

The Coalition Government's National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) was published on 27 March 2012. The document replaces over a thousand pages of national planning policy with around 50. On its release, the Government stated that: "This is a key part of our reforms to make the planning system less complex and more accessible, to protect the environment and to promote sustainable growth."

Many of the former policy statements and circulars were cancelled with the publication of the NPPF. For more information, please visit the Department of Communities & Local Government web site.

The Government's Planning Portal web site is a one-stop source of information for the general public, applicants and agents, planners and local authorities, covering both planning and building control matters.
