New Council Housing in Leicester

Earlier this year it was announced that Leicester City Council had been awarded £7m to build new council housing.

The funding, part of the so called ‘Housing Pledge’ enables councils to build more homes more quickly whilst also helping to boost the construction industry.  The Pledge will help councils to play a greater role in meeting housing needs in their area. Nationally £1.5billion is being pumped into housing to build an additional 20,000 new, affordable and energy efficient homes.

Provided from central government’s Local Authority New Build Programme, the funding is for local authorities for the building of new council homes.

We will be building 146 new homes across fives sites in partnership with the developer Kiers.

New homes sites

  • Heather Road (9 homes)
  • Wycombe Road (49 homes)
  • Godstow Walk (35 homes)
  • Birkenshaw Road (23 homes)
  • Laburnham Road (30 homes)

The new properties will range from one bedroom flats to five bedroom family homes, with significant provision of two, three and four bedroom homes that are wheelchair accessible.

All of the new homes will achieve 4 stars in The Code for sustainable homes, which means that they will be very efficient and economical for tenants to heat - helping to combat fuel poverty.
