If you go down to the woods today, what do you think you'll find?

Discover Animal Stories, an exhibition for families where little known gems from the museum collections will be displayed for your enjoyment and inspiration. Hear and see stories about animals from around the world and across time and be inspired to use a number of interactive activities to tell your own stories.

Animal Stories is supporting the RSPB's campaign to Save the Albatross. Please bring along your used stamps to deposit at the exhibition and help do your bit to support this endangered species. www.rspb.org.uk/albatross

Animal Stories: Launch Weekend
Saturday 25th June & Sunday 26th June
11.00am – 5.00pm
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery
Join us for the opening weekend of our summer exhibition, Animal Stories. See animal puppets made by Kingfisher Community Group and take part in various
activities including face painting, storytelling, animal trail, papercrafts and Jigabytes with Kyle Campbell. Drop-in for most events, Jigabytes and cartoon caricatures pre-booking recommended. All ages. £2.50 for activities.

Animal Stories: Reptile Day
Wednesday 20th July
11.00am – 4.00pm  (Animal Handling session 2.00pm - 3.30pm)
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery

The lizards have taken over the museum! Make your own lizard mobiles and handle the blue-tongued skink and his friends. Drop in event, suitable for ages 6+. £2.50 for activities.

Animal Stories: Crafty Creatures
Tuesday 2nd & 18th August
11.00am – 4.00pm
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery

Create your own real or imaginary animal from a range of materials then follow the activity trail around the museum. Drop-in event, suitable for all ages. £2.50 for activities.

Animal Stories: Reptile Day & Mini Beasts 1
Wednesday 10th August
11.00am – 4.00pm (Handling session 2.00pm - 4.00pm)
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery
The lizards are back with the mini beasts! Make a clay bug, shake hands with the water dragons and listen to stories from Leicester Libraries. Drop-in event. £2.50 for activities (both activities & handling session),

* Please note, due to managing numbers, the handling sessions will be on 20 minute slots from 2.00pm - 4.00pm with a maximum of 10 tickets per 20 minutes. Please book through the museum shop for the handling session. For the activities only, these are on a drop-in basis.

Animal Stories: Birds with the RSPB
Saturday 13th August & Sunday 14th August
11.00am – 4.00pm
New Walk Museum & Art Gallery

The RSPB will give a short talk about endangered species at 11.00am. From 12.00noon, make a decorative dragonfly, mask and build a bird feeder. Bring your old stamps in support of endangered species. Drop-in event, age 6+. £2.50 for activities.

Animal Stories: Spiders & Amphibians
Wednesday 28th September
2.30pm – 3.30pm

Pink-toed spiders and amphibians will be visiting animal stories. Drop-in event, suitable for all ages.

John Hegley: Animal Alphaboat
Saturday 1st October
Workshop 11.00am - 1.00pm Show: 2.00pm

Join renowned poet and performer John Hegley for a creative workshop and performance of his amazing Animal Alphaboat show as part of Everybody's Reading 2011.

Animal Alphaboat is a special family interactive show, including clapping games, animal poems, poetic genius and general silliness. Hailed by The Guardian as one of the ten best kids’ shows at the 2010 Edinburgh Festival - but suitable for people of all ages!

Hegley will also facilitate a unique poetry workshop, open to both children and adults, which will draw upon the Animal Stories exhibition at New Walk Museum & Art Gallery. 10% discount in the museum café with workshop and show ticket.

Animal Stories: Puppets, Storytelling & Animal Handling
Wednesday 19th October

Join the Animal Stories curator for storytelling and puppets (11.00am – 1.00pm, 2.00pm – 3.00pm) and an animal handling session with Brooksby Agricultural College (2.30pm – 3.30pm). Pre-booking essential for handling session, £2.50 for activities.
