Mobile meals is one of a range of services provided or arranged by Leicester City's Adult Social Care that help vulnerable people to live in their own home for as long as they are able to.
The service provides nutritionally balanced meals that are delivered to the service users home on a daily basis or as necessary.
Mobile meals can be provided either on a short term or longer term basis.
Short term meal provision may, for example, follow a period of hospitalisation or a period where a relative or friend usually providing a meal is temporarily unable to do so.
Longer term referrals are usually as a result of enduring illness or disability.

We have a responsibility to ensure that the service reaches those people who are in most need.
This means that people who are unable either to prepare or arrange for a main daily meal, whether because of disability, illness or other similar reason, may be eligible for the meals service.
Assessment of need, therefore, forms an important part of our response to requests for the service.
Meals are provided all year round, but regular assessments of need will determine the number of days each service user will be eligible to receive a meal.

All service users receiving mobile meals will be charged a standard financial contribution towards the cost of the meal provided. This is subject to an annual review.
We aim to offer different styles of meals to ensure we meet the requirements of all our service users whatever their cultural background.
In addition, individual special needs can be catered for such as soft food diets and diets suitable for specific medical conditions.

The different styles of meals are prepared and delivered on our behalf by local providers consisting of the council’s own in-house catering service and the independent sector.
Our meal providers, which are chosen through a formal process of selection, meet strict requirements in terms of catering hygiene standards and the nutritional values of the meals they provide.

We have the following standards, which aim to ensure our service users get the best possible service from us:
- good quality food delivered to the service user’s home at the correct temperature
- a varied menu takes account of religious and cultural requirements and of seasonal availability
- meals meet over one-third of an adult’s daily nutritional requirement, and more than meet guidelines used by the National Association of Care Catering
- deliveries usually made at the same time each day for those people who receive a daily meals service - exceptions might be due to adverse weather conditions, heavy traffic or other circumstances beyond our control
- trained delivery staff are expected to be helpful, efficient and courteous at all times.

Comments, compliments and complaints
Comments and suggestions about our services are always welcome. If there is any dissatisfaction with something we have done or failed to do in a reasonable way, we will try to put things right.
We hope in most cases the problem or complaint can be sorted out directly with an appropriate member of our staff.
If you are still unhappy, though, you can take things further by using the Adult Social Care Complaints Procedure.
Anyone from Adult Social Care will be able to provide you with a leaflet about using the complaints procedure.
Feedback on where we have provided a good service is also helpful to us in the planning and development of mobile meals.
Once you have been assessed for mobile meals any complaints, in the first instance, should be referred to:
