The Blue Badge Scheme is available to persons who:

have severe walking difficulties and travel either as a driver or passenger

are registered blind

with severe upper limb disabilities who regularly drive a vehicle but cannot turn a steering wheel by hand

Organisations caring for disabled persons
News Flash - With effect from the 1st May 2008 we can now provide AUTOMATIC BADGES on a 'While You Wait' basis.
Please be aware, new regulations come in to force on the 15th October, that will alter the qualifying criteria.
The scheme is designed to allow badge holders access to on street parking close to their destination.
Please note that people with temporary disabilities, such as a broken limb, are not eligible for a Blue Badge. Disabled children under two years of age are also ineligible, as they would not generally be expected to walk independently.

Other concessions are available locally at city council owned car parks. Leicester City Council runs eight public car parks, all of which have unlimited free parking for Blue Badge holders.
National Car Parks manage most of the other public car parking in the city. They give no concessions to disabled people.
