Recycling banks

Recycling bank

At recycling banks across Leicester you can recycle the following items:

 

  • clothes, shoes, textiles

  • books, cardboard, paper

  • food tins & drink cans, foil

  • mixed glass bottles & jars

 

To locate your nearest recycling bank, please call 0116 252 7002 or use the online bank locator on the Recycle Now website. Just enter your postcode to find out what you can recycle and where. 

  

Community Recycling Centres (CRCs)

Community recycling centre

 

Community Recycling Centres (CRCs) are free of charge to use and are for the benefit of Leicester's residents to take their own domestic household materials from the property where they live. 

 

 Location:

(Bridge Road, off Spence Street, Leicester, LE5 3LD)        

(Islington Street, Freemans Common, Leicester, LE2 7SQ)       

 

Opening hours:

  • April – September: 8am - 8pm  and October – March: 8am - 6pm

  • Both centres are open daily throughout the year except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day and will close early at 2pm on 24th and 31st December.

 

What materials can I recycle at the CRC?

Top tip: Sort your items before visiting to save time and avoid queues.

 

 Do I need a permit to tip?

  • No, you do not need a permit if you wish to use a car;

  • Yes, you need a permit to tip if you wish to use a van/pickup or trailer.  Call the Permit Hotline 0116 216 1914 to find out more or  apply for your 'permit to tip' online

If your permit expires during the last week of December, please renew it before Christmas by calling 0116 216 1914

Illegal Tipping and Commercial Waste

  • These sites only accept household materials. 

  • for non-household waste visit the Commercial Waste and Recycling pages. If you are found to be leaving these materials you will be prosecuted.

  • The unauthorised tipping of waste is illegal and subject to a maximum fine of £20,000 per incident, and up to six months imprisonment. 

  • If you suspect illegal tipping, inform the Environment Agency immediately on 0800 807060.
