The overall aim of children's services is to ensure safe, secure and effective care that enables all children to fulfil their potential, maximise their health and live successful adult lives.
Ideally children and young people should be cared for by their families, with additional assistance when required.
However, whenever this is not in their best interests they should be looked after in another caring setting which provides a positive and rewarding experience through childhood and into adulthood.
Children's services exist to help realise this objective.
