The Highway Maintenance team are responsible for maintaining the highway and watercourse infrastructure in a clean, tidy, safe and operationally efficient condition.
A pothole develops where the surface of the highway has failed and is the most commonly occurring defect on the highway.

In response to abnormal damage to city roads, caused by the severe weather over the 2010/11 winter, the Department for Transport (DfT) has provided exceptional funding for road maintenance in 2011.
