What is Young Creators?

New Walk Museum and Art Gallery collaborates with young people from all over Leicester and Leicestershire, from all backgrounds. We welcome the divergent opinions, experiences and beliefs young people bring to situations, and encourage interest and creative conversation.

Young Creators have opportunities to:

  • Collaborate with artists
  • Develop creative projects
  • Gain experience of being involved in a gallery
  • Attend exhibition openings and film screenings
  • Become a volunteer and Youth Panel member
  • Gain an Arts Award qualification.
While Young Creators cannot currently meet up at the museum, the group is keeping in touch online.

Young Creator sessions

Our popular meet-ups at New Walk Museum and Art Gallery will resume as soon as it is safe and practical to do so.

The two-hour sessions offer a programme of specialist workshops, working with creative practitioners, alongside opportunities such as:

  • volunteering
  • supporting exhibitions
  • Youth Panel
  • working with the digital team to support the Young Creators blog, Instagram and other social media
  • skills and knowledge sharing
  • portfolio development
  • advice from arts and performance mentors.

Each season there is a new theme and a range of activities.

How artists can be involved in Young Creators

We commission artists to collaborate with young people to research, experiment and create work that can be shared in the gallery, online or in a range of community settings. This can be a sharing of research, knowledge or artwork.

If you are an artist or practitioner and you are interested in working with Young Creators, please contact Manjit Garcha or call 0116 454 4574.
