Hinckley Road explosion
Emergency services have now completed their investigations on the Hinckley Road explosion, which took place on Sunday 25 February 2018. Work to make the area safe and the reopening of the road is now managed by us.
Update - 20 March 2018
Demolition work was completed over the weekend. Basements will be infilled to make the site safe.
Work is being carried out to inspect, repair and clear the pavement and city-bound carriageway over the next few days.
An assessment will take place mid-week to determine whether the off-side lane of the city-bound carriageway can be safely reopened within the next week whilst other works continue.
Utilities (gas and electricity) work needs to be undertake to restore and make safe supplies. This may some time to complete.
Hinckley Road has reopened outbound from Fosse Road Central. The closure remains in place from Woodville Road if your coming into town. Delays are expected around these and surrounding areas during rush hour. Local bus services are being affected by these closures. The inbound lane of Hinckley Road, from its junction with Woodville Road, will need to remain closed for the time being.
