Pancake fun at Leicester Market

Published on 27 February 2017

LEICESTER Market is teaming up with LOROS for a Pancake Day relay race tomorrow (Tue 28 Feb).

To mark Shrove Tuesday, eight teams of four will race each other through the market to showcase their pancake-tossing skills.

Teams taking part will represent businesses and organisations including the market’s outdoor traders, the food hall and LOROS, and the winning team will get medals and a prize.

They’ll also have a £100 donation made in their name to the LOROS hospice, courtesy of the market traders’ publicity and promotion association.

The race kicks off at 1.15pm, with two heats before an exciting final. It will start at the Market Square before heading down towards Market Place South, doubling back to pass in front of the food hall, then returning to the Market Square.

Visitors to the market between 11am and 1pm can also enjoy a pancake with fresh lemon or orange, courtesy of the market traders association, with a suggested donation of £1 to go to LOROS.

LOROS will also selling raffle tickets on the day.

Markets development officer Adam Piotrowski said: “This is the third time we have done a pancake race and we’re looking forward to seeing if someone can challenge last year’s winners, the food hall traders.

“We are really looking forward to the day. It will be a lot of fun and I would encourage people to come by, watch the race and have a pancake!’
