Climate ready retail grant
We’re offering grants from £200 to £5,000 to retail businesses towards the cost of energy efficiency measures. If eligible, you will be applying for a grant that will be for 50% of the total project cost.
Who are the grants for?
Grants are for independent retail businesses within the Neighbourhood Improvement Scheme priority areas of Leicester who are defined:
- as a small or medium-sized enterprise (SME)
- with no more than five outlets nationally.
You will be applying for a grant that will be for 50% of the total project cost, up to the maximum grant of £5,000. The remaining contribution is required as match funding from the small or medium-sized enterprise. Any costs above the maximum grant amount must be funded by the business.
What are the requirements of the grant?
- able to demonstrate how the energy efficiency improvements will have a positive impact on the business.
- you must be the retailer of the premises. Only one application can be supported for each premises.
- you must provide a breakdown of project costs, two quotes from accredited contractors, what the intended energy efficiency improvement is and what it will be replacing. (Before and after images will be required)
- grant payment will only be made when work has been completed and the business bank account statements show payment to the contractor have been made
- retrospective applications where the work has already been started or completed will not be considered, works should not begin on-site before a grant offer is accepted
- approval of planning permission does not mean you automatically qualify for this grant. The planning application process and applying for this grant are two separate processes.
What type of work will be funded?
Potential measures include but are not limited to:
- energy efficient heating systems and controls, e.g. boiler replacements and heat pumps
- low energy lighting replacements (LEDs) and controls
- renewable energy systems – e.g. biomass, solar panels
- insulation e.g. loft, cavity, roof, or solid wall insulation
- replacement energy efficient equipment and machinery e.g refrigeration
- building energy management systems
- innovative low carbon measures, such as heat recovery systems

Grants will be linked to the Neighbourhood Improvement Scheme priority areas.

The grant is not available to all. We will be approaching businesses in specific areas. We will then provide further information and guidance on how to apply.
How long will this grant run for?
There is limited funding available for this grant and it will run on a first-come, first-served basis until the funding has all been used.
