End of life care

Leicester Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). Health and social care needs associated with end of life care, 2022.

End of life care is all-hours care for those with advanced, progressive or incurable illness to ensure quality of life before they die.

Around half a million people die in England every year. Most deaths occur in people aged over 65. Cancers, circulatory disease and respiratory conditions account for 70% of deaths that are not sudden.

The following chapter further details the level of need in the population, current services in place, project service use, any service gaps and recommendations for commissioners.
