You can ask questions at full council or scrutiny meetings, and make statements at scrutiny meetings. This is your opportunity to engage directly with the people who make decisions which affect you.

How do I ask a question?
If you're attending one of our scrutiny commissions, asking questions is a fairly informal process. The chair will simply notify everyone present how much time has been set aside for questions at the start of the meeting.
If you want to ask a question at Full Council, you will need to submit your question at least five clear days before the relevant meeting, either in writing, by email or using our online form. Please make sure you include your name, address and a contact telephone number.
Five clear days excludes the day of submission, the day of the meeting, Bank Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays.
We will contact you to acknowledge receipt of your question and tell you the date of the meeting. You will also be sent information on attending the meeting.
Due to the nature of Full Council meetings, the way your question is dealt with will be more formal than at a scrutiny meeting.
Making a statement or case at a scrutiny meeting
You can also make statements at scrutiny meetings which allows a subject to be considered in more detail.
If you ask to speak at a scrutiny committee, you may be asked questions by committee members. The chair may also invite you to take further part in the meeting.

Accessibility
The meeting rooms at Town Hall and City Hall are all accessible to wheelchair users. Wheelchair access for the Town Hall is from Horsefair Street. Wheelchair access for City Hall is from Charles Street.
A hearing loop system is available in the meeting rooms. Please ask for help at the meeting, or call us in advance on 0116 454 6350.
Reports can be provided in other formats, such as Braille, audio and large print, and can also be translated into other languages.
