Walking in Leicester
We aim to encourage people to walk by introducing walking to school projects and community walking projects.
We are proud to say that a higher percentage of people walk to work in Leicester than in London, and we are keen to make that number grow.
We have received government funding for a number of schemes which promote walking in our city - a 'walk to school' scheme aimed at young people, and a summer walks initiative, where we encourage people to walk more every day.
There are a number of other ways we encourage people to get walking around Leicester.
We offer advice to any schools wanting to set up walking bus schemes. A walking bus is a group of children, who walk to school under the supervision of volunteers.
The walking bus follows a set route, stopping at agreed pick up points or 'bus stops' in the neighbourhood.

Tell us about your favourite walk
We would like you to tell us about your favourite Leicester walk. This will help us to paint a picture of the walking environment in the city and create a catalogue of walking routes for others to try. Your walk may feature in our Leicester’s Favourite Walks Guide set for release summer 2018. Your walk can be beyond the city boundary, but must be easy to reach from the city centre.
