Walking in Leicester

We aim to encourage people to walk by introducing walking to school projects and community walking projects.

We are proud to say that a higher percentage of people walk to work in Leicester than in London, and we are keen to make that number grow.

We have received government funding for a number of schemes which promote walking in our city - a 'walk to school' scheme aimed at young people, and a summer walks initiative, where we encourage people to walk more every day.

There are a number of other ways we encourage people to get walking around Leicester.

Schools

We offer advice to any schools wanting to set up walking bus schemes. A walking bus is a group of children, who walk to school under the supervision of volunteers.

The walking bus follows a set route, stopping at agreed pick up points or 'bus stops' in the neighbourhood.
