Trade waste facility

Businesses can dispose of their waste at Gypsum Close Trade Recycling Centre. The facility is open to all businesses within or outside of Leicester city.

Our trade waste facility offers a simple, flexible and cost effective way to dispose of business waste and is open to all businesses in and around Leicester. There are many benefits to using the trade waste facility:

  • no contracts
  • no large bins outside your premises
  • no collection fees
  • competitive disposal costs
  • low minimum weights.

Soft and upholstered seating currently not accepted

At the start of 2023 the Environment Agency issued new directions on the collection and disposal of soft or upholstered seating. This is due to the presence of pollutants in the seating that can leach into the environment if the items are landfilled.

Items include but are not limited to:

  • settees, sofas, sofa beds
  • armchairs, home office chairs, and upholstered kitchen and dining room chairs
  • futons and pouffes
  • upholstered stools and footstools
  • beanbags
  • floor and sofa cushions.

These items must now be incinerated, but unfortunately incinerator capacity is very limited in the UK. Due to the speed of the introduction of the new rules, waste disposal outlets are not yet available and we cannot currently accept these materials. We hope to be able to accept them again in the future.

Mattresses, curtains and carpets are not included.

How do I use the trade waste facility?

1. Apply for a waste carriers license (using quick link above)

If you wish to transport waste from your business or operational premises to a disposal location, you must possess a valid waste carriers licence (or waste carrier exemption if applicable). A licence can be obtained from the Environment Agency. This licence is usually free if you are only transporting your own business waste. If bringing someone else’s business waste, or you deal with building, construction or demolition waste, you may have to pay for the licence.

2. Register your details (using the quick link above)

In addition to applying for the waste carrier’s licence, you can register your details with our waste site to make your first visit quicker. For quick and easy registration of your vehicle, please use the quick link above.

3. Bring your waste and recycling to the facility
